Hello Everyone,
Happy New Year! I love January. After a busy holiday period, we have a chance to slow down, refocus, and reset our direction. It is an ideal month to look inward. This year it is best to use January
to consider what you want to change and what you want to accomplish in 2016, and then move forward in February.
For the past few years, I’ve used Susannah Conway’s annual planning guide to get started. I recommend allowing enough time to give this proper
thought over several hours or days. As many project managers know, the more time you put into planning, the easier it is to accomplish your goals.
If you are on Facebook, I’ll be posting a feng shui tip each day on my Feng Shui Connections page. Check them out and pass them along. I’ll also be
posting photos to Instagram. One of my goals is to have a more active social media presence. This will take some work on my part. Fortunately, I have some great assistance.
Mercury will be retrograde from January 5- 25th. This is an ideal period to refocus, reduce, repair, etc.
Enjoy January! If you feel that you are getting off to a slow start, it’s OK. You are most likely in sync with the
times.

Feng Shui and Moon Energy |
Each month I write about the new moon and full moon in relation to feng shui. New moons are a time to set new intentions that begin to take root around the full moon, two weeks later. Credit for this goes to Simone Butler. Her Astro Feng Shui system aligns the feng shui bagua with the moon energy. Since there are twelve moon signs and nine bagua sectors, three sectors do double duty each year: Knowledge & Wisdom, Prosperity, and Health.
With this system you work with one room or area each month. It is an easy way
to make steady progress improving the energy of your home or workspace, while minimizing overwhelm. The two weeks prior to each new moon are the “preparation period.” This is the time to identify your intentions and to clean and refresh the designated sector of your home or office. When the full moon arrives two week later, you tune in and notice what is happening. Then you begin the cycle again, focusing on new intentions as you activate a new area of your
space.
Here’s a preview of the areas we’ll work with during 2016:

January 9th Full Moon: Fame and Illumination |
The January 9th new moon falls in the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn new moons provide an opportunity to add structure to your vision and goals, leverage resources, and build lasting structures. “Slow but steady” is a good theme to keep in mind. According to Madeline Gerwick, Capricorn moons are excellent periods to:
- Do long term planning
- Schedule programs and events
- Reorganize process or structural issues
- Prepare budgets
From a feng shui perspective, the Capricorn new moon correlates with the
Fame gua. This is a time to illuminate your vision and allow your true inner light to shine. The corresponding area in your space is the back center area of your land, home, workplace, and each individual room. The opposite area, the Career gua (center front), is equally important and directly related. The Career gua corresponds to your life purpose, opportunities, and doing meaningful work. When you are doing work you love, it may be easier to be visible and let your light
shine.
Interestingly enough, my daughter recently spotted a gorgeous owl perched in a tree in the center back of our yard. Owls are symbols of the feminine, the moon, and the night. They are also symbols of higher wisdom and have exceptional vision and hearing.
To align your energy with the January new moon, clean, refresh and revitalize the back center of your house, your master bedroom, kitchen, office, garage, yard, etc.) prior to
Saturday, January 9th.
The Fame area is associated with Fire energy. Enhancements include: lights, candles, triangles cones, and pyramids, various shades of the color red, anything that dazzles your senses, pictures of people or animals. You can also strengthen the Fame area with Wood energy, as “wood feeds fire.” Wood energy includes fresh plants and trees, green or blue colors, stripes and flowers, square shapes. Note: from a feng shui perspective, word energy is
vibrant and alive. Actual “wood” items, such as wooden furniture, are considered “Earth” since the wood has been harvested.
Enhancements for the Career area relate to Water energy: the color black or deep blue, glass or mirrors, images that introduce flow and movement, and anything to do with your career or life’s work. If you have a center entrance front door, dress it up and let it shine as well!
As you energize your space this month, visualize
your light shining throughout the year.

January 5-25:
Mercury Retrograde...Time to Lighten Your Schedule |
Mercury is the planet that rules communications, including technology. Mercury appears to back up or go retrograde about three to four times each year, for about three weeks each cycle. During these periods, communications easily get confused and mixed up. These are
periods to lighten your schedule, avoid signing contracts, and avoid buying electronics or technology tools. This month, Mercury goes retrograde January 5th through January 25th. Take extra care and allow more room in your schedule. This is an excellent cycle to re-do, re-consider, repair, review and re-work many things. It is not a favorable period to purchase electronics or technology, make deals, or sign contracts. If you do, don’t be surprised if you make changes
or adjustments beginning January 26th, when any misunderstanding or confusion is likely to clear up. You can make things easy on yourself and experience fewer obstacles by allowing more leeway in your schedule and delaying big purchases. Be proactive. Take advantage of the positive aspects of this cycle.
The remaining Mercury Retrograde cycles for 2016 are: April 28th- May 22nd, August 30th September 22nd,
and December 19th into January 2017.
Mark your calendar and plan ahead.
2016: Year of the Yang Fire Monkey |
The year of the Yang Fire Monkey begins on February 4 th, which begins the new solar year. It is a fixed date. This is the date to make annual changes in your home and workplace. Chinese New Year is February 8th.This is the lunar New Year and it is a movable date. It is the second new moon after the Winter Solstice. I will write more about the annual
changes prior to February. If you are interested in my annual update for placement of cures, send me a note. I am in the process of preparing it. Also let me know if you would like a customized update for your space
($108.00).
2016 will be a year similar to 1956 … adjusting for the advancements in consciousness over the past 60 years.
Guidance for Personal Transformation |
January is a wonderful month to reflect on where you are and where you are headed. Since 2000 I have been drawn deeper and deeper into what really drives our lives and influences outcomes. Feng shui is a very important outer aspect of this: the energy of our spaces influences our lives in very significant ways. We are drawn to our spaces. We choose our homes and places of work. The patterns build over long cycles and often repeat themselves. What we need at the time
shows up, whether we realize it or not. Thus transforming our spaces is a wonderful way to enrich and deepen our life journey.
When we consciously work on our outer spaces, we are inevitably led deeper inside ourselves. There is a continual dance, of sorts, between our inner and outer selves. Inside, our feelings (vs. our thoughts) are the keys that drive what happens in our lives. There is a growing body of scientific evidence to back this up. Our heart energy directs
our brain. We can create new brain patterns (neural networks) regularly by shifting beliefs, which are driven by feelings. One of my favorite resources related to this is Bruce Lipton’s book The Biology of Belief. In this book Lipton explains how our beliefs are encoded in our cells and how they are passed down from generation to generation. The
good news is that we can change our deeply embedded beliefs. As we do so, we change our lives. The Emotional Freedom and Healing release work that I do is one way to help you to release stuck energy and to shift your patterns. This is a gentle
acupressure tapping process that shifts energy at the cellular level. I guide you through the process via phone. Several recordings are available through Polaris Business Guides. I also do custom releases. If you have any stubborn emotions
patterns that you are ready to release, you might order one of the recordings or schedule a customized EF&H release with me.
