Hello Everyone,
In the Mt. Washington Valley area, the foliage may have peaked this past weekend. It seems a bit early this year. The colors were stunning for several days and now seem to be fading ever so slightly. In the southern part of the state, the colors are still quite vibrant.

October is certain to be a month of changes, personally, seasonally, and energetically. It is time to move inside and prepare ourselves and our spaces for the fall and winter months. In addition to Mercury retrograde, we also have two eclipses this month. It is a good month to lighten your schedule and to also allow more time between commitments. If you don't, you are likely to end up frazzled and frustrated. It is a super month to do some fall sorting, clearing, and cleaning.

If you are in the southern NH area, I'll be doing an evening feng shui workshop on Tuesday, November 4th, at Just Naturals in Bedford, NH. Participate if you are interested.

Enjoy October!

Peg

October: Reconnect With Your Inner Space
Fall is the harvest season. It is also a time when we spend more time indoors and begin preparing for the colder and darker months to come. Our spaces absorb the energy of the events that take place in them as well as the quality of our chi. As you reconnect with your inside space, it is a good idea to give it a thorough, deep cleaning.

Sort and clean your closets, cupboards, drawers, and bureaus ... where you may have lots of things tucked away. As you come across possessions that you no longer identify with, consider passing them along to someone who may value them. Toss out all trash. Repair anything that is broken, that you intend to keep (or set an intention to do so). Wash your windows, inside and out, for clearer vision. Vacuum high and low, and deep into the corners to remove dust and cobwebs and to revitalize stagnant chi. Dust your bookshelves, cabinets and tabletops. Wash your lamps, lampshades and chandeliers. Replace burnt out lights. Dust picture frames and wash the glass.

If you live in a big space, you might regenerate one room at a time. Another strategy is select one "action" and do it throughout the house, such as cleaning all lamps or dusting all picture frames and washing the glass. If you don't have time to clean and refresh your entire house, do your main living space and address the remaining areas over the winter months. As you revitalize your home or work space you may also find that you are reconnecting with yourself and tapping into deeper areas that may have stagnated or overlooked on.

Fall begins a yin cycle where we slow down and begin to look inward. By proactively preparing for this, you will position yourself to reap many benefits. One of these may be a less frenzied and more joyful holiday season, where you take charge of yourself and your activities.

Stevens-Coolidge Estate and Gardens, N. Andover, MA
Last week a friend treated me to a picnic lunch and tour of the gorgeous gardens at the Stevens-Coolidge Place in N. Andover, MA. What a gem! This is a beautiful country estate that is part of "The Trustees of Reservations"  in Massachusetts. It is a place where a fine country home from earlier times is complemented by the gorgeous gardens and rolling landscape. The garden is open to the public year round, during daylight hours. The house is open for tours periodically. Some of the feng shui features include: a beautiful front entrance; solid, protective, stone walls to separate the outer world; wide, curvy paths that lead to delightful spaces; many areas to sit, relax and enjoy the scenery, including outdoor patio rooms; restored perennial gardens cutting gardens, fruit trees and wide, open space. The long, flowing, brick serpentine wall is a special treat. How many times do we drive by beautiful places without take the time to slow down and peak beyond the walls and fences? I know I have done this many times.

Check out more features of this beautiful property, online.  If you are in the MA area, the Trustees have more than 100 additional properties that are sure to delight your senses if you choose to explore them as well.

Mercury Retrograde: Oct 4- 25
The planet Mercury will be retrograde from Saturday, October 4th through Saturday, October 25th. This three week period is ideal for "re"-doing things. It is an excellent period to reorganize, recycle, repair, revise, revitalize, review, rewrite, renew, reconnect, revisit, etc. You might use this cycle to do a deep fall cleaning and reorganize your space. As you do so, recycle items that you no longer need or use. Repair anything that is broken or not functioning at its best. Revitalize items that may have been forgotten that still have meaning in your life. It is an excellent period for writing, rewriting, and editing. Consider taking time to reconnect with family or friends. You might also revisit places you enjoy. Remember to allow for extra time in your schedule this month as mix-ups do happen and can slow us down. Also remember to avoid purchasing electronics, signing contracts, getting entangled in any arguments.  If you take advantage of the positive aspects of this cycle, October could be a very productive month.

Eclipse Season is in Full Swing
We are in eclipse season. Eclipses are times of major changes or events. According to Madeline Gerwick  the issues that come up can last from 3-6 months for a lunar eclipse and up to a year or longer for a solar eclipse. Also, eclipse events can occur up to 30 days before and after each eclipse. With both a lunar and solar eclipse this month, it is a time to tune in and pay attention to what is going on with your life. These eclipses are associated with relationships, finances, and your destiny.

The full moon and Lunar Eclipse occurs on Wednesday, October 8th (15 degrees Aries) and a new moon and Solar Eclipse on October 23rd (0 degrees Scorpio).  These eclipses will influence you if you have a planet or important point within 3-4 degrees of the eclipse degree. An astrologer can help you figure this offer and provide a deeper perspective about how these relate to you and your life.

The October 8th Lunar Eclipse may bring an impulsive and/or spontaneous quality to financial or relationship events in your life. This eclipse could also relate to "invisible assistance in accomplishing your work," per Madeline Gerwick. Wouldn't that be nice!  This is a time to be guided by your intuition, so tune in and pay attention. The October 23rd Solar Eclipse is about having a sense of your destination but not really knowing what it looks like. You might begin to develop a sense of how you would like your journey to unfold. You could also gather images and photos that will help you to sort things out. Much of this eclipse season is about being guided and protected from within. If these eclipse affect you, tune in and enjoy the ride.

If you set intentions and you energized or refreshed the Partnership area (back right area) of your space last month, tune in to the results of your efforts beginning with the October 8th full moon and Lunar Eclipse. Notice what is shifting. Be sure to pay attention to the small details.

October 23rd New Moon and Solar Eclipse: Focus on Prosperity
New moons are about new beginnings. Since the moon also influences your emotional energy and patterns, we have an opportunity to bring ourselves and our spaces into alignment with the energies of the moon each month. The Thursday, October 23th new moon and Solar Eclipse is in the sign of Scorpio. The corresponding area to energize is Wealth and Abundance. This Prosperity area is the back left corner of your land, your house, and every room in your house, when you divide your space into a grid of nine (like a tic-tac-toe board). These areas also correlate to your business or work space as well.  The Prosperity area relates to the flow of blessings, abundance, and prosperity in your life, including the flow of money. If you'll be doing a full fall cleaning this season, you might begin with the back left corner of your home or workspace.

Prosperity is about fortunate blessings, vitality, growth and abundance. In the Chinese Five Element system, the Prosperity gua relates to Wood energy as represented by plants and trees. Wood is strengthened by Water and depleted by Fire. Wood helps to balance excess Earth and is controlled by Metal. Nature is a wonderful teacher and is all about balance. Rain and water help plants and trees to grow and flourish. A wildfire can deplete a wooded area in an instant. In a barren setting, trees and plants are most welcome whereas when there are too many, metal axes and blades cut them down and thin them out. When this doesn't happen, nature runs its course and Fire becomes the natural equalizer or balancer. The process is cyclical. In my area a "controlled burn" has been taking place recently to thin out excess wood and tree growth. This enables the remaining trees to grown stronger. It also minimizes the chances of wildfire.

From a feng shui perspective, blues, greens, some purple or a little bit of red are supportive colors for Prosperity sectors. The rooms do not have to be painted in these colors. Often a little goes a long way. Green plants, fresh flowers and flowing water are also welcome additions. You can also place pictures or symbols that represent supportive energies, such as a photo or a gorgeous tree or a beautiful waterfall.

I recommend that you place something that conjures up feelings or images of treasure, wealth or abundance in your Wealth gua. It should be something that you love, or that you feel great about or is very meaningful to you. All of your possessions hold energy and that energy spreads throughout your space, connecting you to events and people ... past, present and even future.

Before enhancing your Wealth gua, give it a good cleaning and remove all clutter, anything you don't identify with or things that no longer represent who you are and where you are headed. This is an ideal time of year to wash your windows and curtains and vacuum deep into the corners, removing stagnant energy. Clean windows will help you develop a clearer vision.

Hips, thighs, and legs are the body parts we associate with the Prosperity gua. I see a connection with this in my practice. Some people having hip or knee replacements also struggle with abundance issues or lack of cash flow. As result they strengthen and reinforce the lack of what they truly want to experience. If you identify with any aspect of this, one way to begin to turn this around is to recognize and acknowledge the significant prosperity and many blessings that already flow throughout your life. View what you have through a different lens and a new angle. Your current situation is the starting point for where you are headed. If your experience is the opposite of what you want, you can change it by altering your perspective. Focus on the end result of what you want. Let go of how and when it will happen. Then pay attention to the small signs that emerge to signal that a transformation is underway.

Refresh and revitalize the back left corner of your home, office or business prior to October 23rd. Set clear intentions for amazing blessings to come your way. Tune in to everything that happens and pay attention to how you open to increased prosperity and abundance. Notice what unfolds for you beginning with the November 6th full moon.  Giving thanks, in advance, is a great technique as well. I'll write more about this during November.

Have You Ever Seen an Eagle?

Here is an amazing story from the Good News Network about an eagle rescue near Vancouver Island, Canada.  The exhausted eagle swam toward a fisherman's boat, was rescued in a net, and was taken to a wildlife center for recovery.

Eagles were regularly present in our area this summer. They symbolize strength, vision, leadership, and power. They are about stretching beyond your comfort zone and reaching for greater heights. Eagle vision is eight times as sharp as humans. If an eagle has come into your life, open to the many possibilities that the future may hold for you. Be patient and allow things to unfold. Eagle energy may open you to new dimensions of life.
